Nice to meet you! Welcome to my site. Let me introduce myself.
I'm a video geek, game designer, and digital artist. I love using new technologies to tell new stories.
For many years, I ran a production company with Gabriel Bauer. Together, we created a wide range of new media projects, including television commercials, web series, documentaries, video games, and interactive DVDs.
Most notably, we were among the early professional vloggers in the early 2000s, producing work for companies such as BMW and Coca-Cola. You can watch some of the archived shows in the XOLO.TV and MOBUZZ.TV collections.
A few highlights include interviews with Danny Antonucci, Angela Merkel, and Steve Wozniak.
I currently have several new live shows and media projects in development, so make sure to subscribe if you'd like to follow along.
After a number of years as an entrepreneur, I joined Indie Amsterdam, where I helped the agency win its first Digital Spin Award, along with several others. At Indie, I worked on a number of award-winning campaigns alongside Lode Schaeffer. We even built a robot that handed out ice cream for Ben & Jerry's. That was fun.
A few times each year, I get the opportunity to speak about games, technology, creativity, and the future at conferences around the world. You can watch some of those recorded talks in the Talks and Interviews section.
Upcoming appearances can be found under News and Upcoming Events. If you're organizing an event and looking for an experienced speaker, educator, or workshop leader, please get in touch.
For more than 20 years, I taught at art colleges and universities across Europe. Today, I teach Serious Game Design through online courses, workshops, and live events at The Game Beyond.
If you're a fan of The Big Lebowski, you'll fit right in here. I am an ordained Dudeist Priest and have even officiated weddings in my bathrobe.
You can explore the Little Lebowski Project to see photographs of the Dude and his friends traveling around the world.
After more than 35 years of travel, teaching, game design, and creative work, that journey has now led to my next life's project: The Abiding Grove.
The Abiding Grove is a future community space built around sustainable living, food forests, makerspaces, games, workshops, nature, fellowship, and the simple art of taking it easy together. It is the first major project of Little Lebowski Church and brings together many of the ideas, lessons, and innovations I encountered during my years abroad.
You can learn more and follow the project at abidinggrove.org.
Please enjoy my blog ramblings and occasional photos. If you enjoy the work, connect with me through one of the links below.
Cheers!
Learn how to harness the power of play and become a serious game designer.
Join one of my courses. Currently my most popular course is The Game Beyond Workshop which teaches Serious Game Design. This workshop is designed to tap into the natural game play habits of the participants; giving a deeper understanding of the art of game design. Participants learn by using a model that allows for the design of a variety of games to overcome real world challenges. The workshop itself is a game designed to get the participants in a flow of collaborative innovation and rapid prototyping. You can try it for yourself online, or make a booking for a group. It’s a perfect team building event.
